To do list for the new site
Here is a quick list of things I see that need doing:
- complete dummy pages on wordpress.com (done: http://sylvaniaheightsflorist.wordpress.com)
- look at permananent hosting solution as possibility (done - chose dreamhost.com 2 year option)
- decide domain name (register, delegate) (update: decided on existing domain. still working on redelegation)
- get images (update: got some. need more)
- outline products (done for high level outline)
- tidy up nav (underway)
- build wufoo.com contact us form page (done)
- look at shopify for transaction engine (done)
- look at integration of email and instant messenger (still to do)
Issues with the old site
The old site was apparently done yonks ago - for quite a bit of money. How technology has progressed. And the prices have come down. Its not quite free…but we can get it close as we can.
Any way - here are the issues I see with the old site:
- iframes (especially of important content)
- text in images
- LARGE image sizes
- Pages with no content
- No regularly updated pages
- Small images of products – we want big visuals
- Poor showing in search engines and directory listings (google, yellow pages, truelocal)
- Insecure credit card pages!
Which leads me to the notes below. Some of the questions to be answered:
- how much does the website cost now?
- What is your budget?
- Does it bring in many online sales?
- How many online leads does it bring in?
- What issues do you see?
- What do you want?
