Weddings from The Weekend

The Bride’s bouquet consists of 50 red roses with folded cordyline leaves around the base of the bouquet. She had three bridesmaids bouquets that included 15 white roses with camellia around the base.

This bridal bouquet contains green Anthuriums, natural Hydrangea, succulents,  orange pin cushions, green leucodendrons and raphis palm. The bridesmaids had exactly the same flowers just smaller and the buttonholes were mini succulents.

Bride number three wanted all purple lisianthus and purple lisianthus she received. she didn’t want much green so I put minimal camellia around the base.

Cassandra’s wedding

Cassandra’s bouquet consists of 30 roses, 15 pale pink and 15 hot pink.

Brides’ are wanting little or no green in their bouquets at the moment. I always suggest green around the base of the bouquet so you are not looking at the mechanics and because it acts as a bit of a buffer, especially if your dress and the colour of you flowers are similar.

Plate of Food Vs Flowers

Orchids, Ginger, Anthuriums, Happy Leaves, November Lilies and Gymea Leaves.

I went to a christening on the weekend and this what I took instead of a plate of food. I don’t go near the kitchen and the host is an amazing cook so I figured why not take something that will be appreciated, instead of sinking in my seat every time someone would go near my dish!

“It’s The Thought That Counts”

!

True thoughtful gifts never have the phrase “it’s the thought that counts” attached to it in any way.

The phrase “it’s the thought that counts” gets used a lot but unfortunately for the wrong reason. It’s usually used after someone has picked out expired chocolates from the reduced bin to hide their embarrassment when they get to the counter. The only thought there is about the money saved!

This arrangement is the true meaning of the phrase. It was ordered for a birthday present as he knew his girlfriend loved sunflowers. He stuck to what he knew, thought about what the recipient would like and ended up with a thoughtful gift!

Next time you hear those words come out your mouth step away from the reduced bin and take five minutes to think about the person receiving the gift and prepare for your presents and relationships  to improve.

Protocol For Sympathy Flowers

A box arrangement of Snap Dragon, Singapore Orchids, Casablanca Lilies and Freesias.

This arrangement was made up today for a bereavement.

I get asked all the time about the protocol for sympathy flowers and I have to say there isn’t any. If the person is old fashion I would say stick with pastel colourings, otherwise bright flowers are refreshing; all white is stylish. It is the same with all occasions, you have to think of the person receiving the flowers and what they would like. Do not assume just because a person is elderly they are old fashion I have made that mistake before; think about the colours in their home, what they wear and the gifts/flowers (if any) they give you. As much as we try not to do it everyone is guilty of buying a present because it appeals to them!

Think out side the box, especially on occasions where there will be a lot of flowers; standing out is half the battle.

My Most Recent Wedding

A posy of 60 Tarlia Roses with Anthurium leaves to finish off the bouquet.

This style of bouquet is very popular as it makes a statement without taking away from ‘the dress’. Remember, your flowers are the most important accessory!

Psst it’s alive!!

Well the site is finally live.  Some issues with delegating the DNS but the customer service from Dreamhost and TPP Internet.

The domain name needs to be:

  • delegated to the hosting providers name servers (thanks TPP Internet)
  • the domain name needs to be ‘fully hosted’ by the hosting partner (thanks Dreamhost)
  • the WordPress install needs to use the domain name (under Settings) for the WordPress and Blog address (thanks Dreamhost)
Also, the hosting partner allows you to then create sub-domains.  So check out m.sylvaniaheightsflorist.com.au for the mobile site of Sylvania Heights Florist.  The sub-domain can be ‘cloaked’ to another url.  In this case the run time domain for ubik.net.  Ubik.com allows for the free creation of mobile friendly sites, as well as supporting cname records or ‘cloaking’ of domains.
And then it’s all alive.
Also the hosting partner (Dreamhost) supports Google Apps.  So I set up a Google Apps account for the domain, allowing for email addresses for the domain - so Alex can have alex@sylvaniaheightsflorist.com.au.
Everything complete!
Time now to tidy it all up, update content, train Alex, and then work on what’s next!

Nearly there

got the domain registry key.  just tidy up the site and then we can launch

some other updates to the site

  • inititated key plugins like stats (google and WP), featurific, and site map generator
  • signed up for google webmaster tools (still figuring out where to put the html verfication page)

(update:  turns out the easiest thing to do on wordpress.org sites is not to upload an html page for google webmaster tools, but its just to add the meta tag to the header.php file - just after the other <meta> tags and before the <title> tag - the only issue with this I think is that if you change theme you have to remember to do it again)

more changes - new theme..and content

well after a little break to have a second child and some illness I am back on board.

changes made include:

And I showed Alex the new design - and she ok’d it!
