Well the site is finally live. Some issues with delegating the DNS but the customer service from Dreamhost and TPP Internet.
The domain name needs to be:
delegated to the hosting providers name servers (thanks TPP Internet)
the domain name needs to be ‘fully hosted’ by the hosting partner (thanks Dreamhost)
the WordPress install needs to use the domain [...]
inititated key plugins like stats (google and WP), featurific, and site map generator
signed up for google webmaster tools (still figuring out where to put the html verfication page)
(update: turns out the easiest thing to do on wordpress.org sites is not to upload an html page for google webmaster tools, but its just to add the [...]
well after a little break to have a second child and some illness I am back on board.
changes made include:
a new theme called ‘Outdoorsy’ from Function Web Design (and its free!)
added pages of content
updated the embedded google map
restructured the nav
played with images in pages
downlaoded and installed some plug-ins
And I showed Alex the new design - [...]
iphone capable site
mobile site
facebook page
myspace page
set up browser in store with logons etc
Here is a quick list of things I see that need doing:
- complete dummy pages on wordpress.com (done: http://sylvaniaheightsflorist.wordpress.com)
- look at permananent hosting solution as possibility (done - chose dreamhost.com 2 year option)
- decide domain name (register, delegate) (update: decided on existing domain. still working on redelegation)
- get images (update: got some. need more)
- outline [...]
The old site was apparently done yonks ago - for quite a bit of money. How technology has progressed. And the prices have come down. Its not quite free…but we can get it close as we can.
